BECOME A BAY & LAKES REGION VOLUNTEER

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Bay & Lakes Region. Our work would not be possible without the generosity of individuals, local businesses, corporations, and foundations that help to advance our mission.

Volunteering at the Club is a fulfilling experience that allows you to make a direct investment in the future of youth in the communities we serve. We have a variety of opportunities to match your skills and interests.

Volunteering in the garden

Repetitive Program Volunteer
You can directly help youth by assisting at a Clubhouse or school-based site. You will assist with a program or activity, like homework help, reading buddy, snack or meal service, or by teaching a skill (music, craft, writing, sports and more). We ask for a commitment of at least one hour per week for at least three months (or for the length of the program).

Special Event Volunteer
From fundraising to family events, the Club hosts multiple events throughout the year. Helping at events happen in a variety of ways, from prep and clean-up, to meal service, holiday gift shopping and more.

Project Based Volunteer
Come as an individual or with a group or to complete a special project, like general maintenance (painting or cleaning), beautification (planting flowers, weeding, raking leaves), or another service project. Generally, these opportunities occur when youth are not in the building.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the process to volunteer at the Club?
1) Complete the online application above
2) After reviewing your application, a Boys & Girls Clubs of the Bay & Lakes Region staff member will reach out to you
3) If an opportunity meets the Club’s needs and the volunteer’s expectations, the volunteer will complete a background check and additional online training
4) Once the background check and training have been approved, you will be connected to a site and Club leader to begin service

Please note: Prior to service and annually while service continues, all volunteers (including board members) who volunteer more than one time per calendar year and have direct, repetitive service with youth will be required to complete a comprehensive background check that reviews that following: Verification of identity and legal aliases through social security verification, a national sex offender registry search, and a comprehensive criminal search (including county, state, and federal records). Unless otherwise specified, a credit check is not part of our background check.

Can anyone volunteer at the Club?
Not everyone who completes a volunteer application is accepted to volunteer. Factors that contribute this are:
– Club’s capacity to on-board new volunteers
– The volunteer’s availability or interest
– Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years of age

Please note, we are not able to accommodate court-order community service hours.

I’m a teenager. How do I get involved?
Consider becoming a member and join one of our teen leadership programs.

Who should I contact with questions?
Sara Wall, Human Resources & Volunteer Coordinator
